A 43-year-old mother of seven, Zubeda Habonimana, will not be sent to prison for causing a fatal car crash that killed her six-year-old daughter, Benita Ntihebuwayo, at an intersection in Adelaide's northern suburbs.

The crash occurred on October 5 last year, when Habonimana's white van struck a ute at the intersection of King and Penfield roads in Virginia. Benita suffered catastrophic injuries and died five days later, while two of her siblings and the driver of the ute were injured.

Emotional impact on families

Benita's father, Jason Birgirmana, told the court that the loss of his daughter had been extremely painful for his family, but asked the court not to send Habonimana to jail.
