Golden North Churns Out Ice Cream in Murray Bridge Factory
Golden North's new ice cream factory is now operational in Murray Bridge, South Australia, bringing the company closer to the state's central milk-producing region. The move is expected to increase production and create new job opportunities.
Golden North's new ice cream factory is now operational in Murray Bridge, South Australia, marking a significant milestone for the company. The facility, formerly owned by Beston Global Food Company, was acquired by Golden North after it went into liquidation in 2025.
Golden North managing director and co-owner Dimi Kyriazis said the move to Murray Bridge would bring the company closer to SA's central milk-producing region, allowing for increased ice cream production and expansion into other products.
"We're kicking things off with ice cream," Mr Kyriazis said. "Ice cream is the most important thing; that's what's going to pay the bills in the beginning of this story of Golden North here in Murray Bridge."
Mr Kyriazis stated that cheese production would also be a priority in the future. The company will initially source milk from another company, with plans to sign direct contracts with farmers later.
"There are opportunities everywhere … we just could never take advantage of them before. Murray Bridge allows us to do it,"
he said. The new factory will require around 20 additional staff, bringing the total employment to approximately 100. Former Beston staff, including head of operations Paul Connelly, have joined Golden North.
"The recipes stay with the factory. They don't usually get sold off to someone else," Mr Connelly said. "Sometimes they do get sold with the brand, but all the recipes here are from probably 20 or 30 years ago, even more."
The move to Murray Bridge marks the end of Golden North's 103-year presence in Laura, where it was the largest employer. Despite $1 million in government assistance, the company departure will leave a significant void in the town.
