A 39-year-old Adelaide mother, Amira, has spoken out about her experience of living in her car for 10 months after a relationship breakdown, calling for more support for people experiencing homelessness.
Amira, who did not want her last name published for privacy reasons, said she and her ex-partner took turns staying home with their children on alternate weeks, but when she wasn't with them, she had to move out. Despite offers of accommodation from friends, she eventually felt like a burden and opted for winter nights in car parks around Adelaide.
