In a video message shared by local authorities, the couple expressed their anguish over Gus's absence, highlighting the milestones he has missed, including his fifth birthday and his baby brother's first birthday.
"We are desperate to have him returned home to us and we are desperate for answers," father Josh said before his voice began to crack.
The parents believe that someone in the community knows something about Gus's disappearance, but so far, no one has come forward with crucial information.
"We believe that someone knows something, someone knows what happened to Gus, and may even know where he is," Jess said.
Gus's parents described him as a "beautiful, sweet, unique little boy" who loved music, listening to stories, and playing in the natural world. His mother emphasized the pain of watching her children grow up without their big brother.
"One of the most heartbreaking things is that Gus and his little brother will not grow up and share their lives together," Jess said.
The family has been overwhelmed by the support of their community, but they remain hopeful for any lead that could bring Gus home. In a recent press conference, the Premier announced a $1 million reward for information leading to a conviction or the location of Gus's remains.
"Even if you are feeling scared or unsure, if you know anything at all, we are imploring you to help us, even the smallest detail may be helpful, please come forward and cooperate with police," Jess said.
Gus was reported missing from his home at Oak Park Station, about 40 kilometers south of Yunta, on September 27, 2025. Despite an extensive search effort, described as "one of the largest, most intensive and most protracted searches ever undertaken" in the state, Gus's whereabouts remain unknown.
Local authorities have confirmed that Gus's grandparents, Josie and Shannon Murray, remain a focus of the investigation into his disappearance.
As the anniversary of Gus's disappearance approaches, his family continues to hold on to hope that he will be found and returned home.
