Local Grave Hunter Uncovers Hundreds of Unmarked Burials in NSW Towns
A local grave hunter has helped a council uncover over 600 unmarked burials in two far-west New South Wales towns. The project aims to identify the people buried in the unmarked graves and honour their memory.
A remarkable project has uncovered over 600 unmarked burials in two far-west New South Wales towns, thanks to the expertise of a local grave hunter. Dave 'the Grave' Hunter, a self-taught expert, has used his ground-penetrating radar technology to locate the graves in Menindee and White Cliffs.
Uncovering the Lost Graves
More than 300 grave sites were identified at the White Cliffs cemetery, and a similar number in Menindee. The Central Darling Shire Council contracted Hunter in July 2025 to search for lost graves in the two towns. Using his equipment, he found the burials, all connected to the existing cemeteries.
