Whyalla Steelworks Fate Hangs in the Balance as Blast Furnace Decision Looms

South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas has arrived in Whyalla ahead of an expected announcement that could potentially impact hundreds of jobs at the local steelworks.

The site's aging blast furnace has been offline since April, and a decision on its future is imminent. Administrators, along with the state government, may tell workers at the blast furnace to stop trying to bring it back online, potentially resulting in the loss of hundreds of jobs at the blast furnace, as well as contract jobs and indirect jobs.
