An 81-year-old Adelaide Hills man has been fined $6,300 for failing to tag his 'pet' deer, despite repeated attempts to do so.

The man, who keeps up to 40 deer on his property, pleaded guilty to one count of failing to comply with an action order issued under the Landscape South Australia Act.

Senior Judge Michael Durrant said the man had attempted to tag the animals, but both he and one of his sons were injured in the process.
