Man dies in South Australian house fire, another faces murder charges
A house fire in Redhill, South Australia's mid-north, has claimed the life of a 65-year-old man, with two others hospitalized and a 63-year-old man expected to face murder charges. The incident is being treated as non-random, with police alleging the accused deliberately lit the fire.
A 65-year-old man has died and two others remain in hospital after a house fire in Redhill, South Australia's mid-north, on Saturday night.
Emergency services responded to reports of the fire on Hope Street just after 7pm. A 63-year-old man and a 64-year-old woman were found with serious burns and airlifted to hospital in Adelaide. The man's injuries were believed to be life-threatening, while the woman remains in a stable condition.
Police said, "Once the fire was extinguished and the property was safe to enter, firefighters then located the body of a 65-year-old man."
Investigation underway
Detectives allege the 63-year-old man, from Wirrabara, attended the Hope Street address and deliberately lit the fire, sustaining severe burns in the process.
Police said, "The man is expected to be charged with murder, attempt murder and arson once medically possible."
The incident is not considered random, with police stating the parties involved were known to each other.
Police are seeking witnesses or anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage that may assist with the investigation to contact Crime Stoppers.
